Congress Decides Jubilee Hills By Poll Candidate?

Congress close to Jubilee Hills bypoll pick

The Congress party appears close to finalising its candidate for the Jubilee Hills by election. With TPCC members pressing for a BC candidate, the choice has narrowed down to two names, raising expectations within the party’s state unit.

Former cricketer Mohd Azharuddin opted out of the race after initially making a strong case for himself, citing his ties with Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. With his exit, the focus shifted firmly to Naveen Yadav and Bonthu Rammohan.

Bonthu Rammohan, former mayor of Hyderabad, entered Congress from BRS and carries administrative experience. Naveen Yadav, who earlier contested from Jubilee Hills on an AIMIM ticket in 2014, had secured the second spot then before joining Congress.

Both belong to backward castes, but analysts believe the balance leans towards Naveen Yadav due to his grassroots work in the constituency. His consistent presence in local issues may give him an edge as the bypoll approaches.

The by election was necessitated by the death of Maganti Gopinath. For CM Revanth Reddy, this contest holds special importance as it is the first election after coming to power. A win would provide Congress a morale boost ahead of local body elections.
