Danam Bargains With Cong High Command

Danam Nagender moved from Congress to BRS when the pink party rose, and later returned to Congress after BRS lost the 2023 elections. He contested the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat on a Congress ticket and lost.

Now, Danam must appear before the Telangana Speaker for defecting from BRS after the elections. Eight of the ten MLAs already submitted explanations. Danam and Kadiyam Srihari skipped the process. Kadiyam asked for more time, while Danam is reportedly negotiating with the Congress High Command.

Reports say Danam plans to seek more time from the Speaker so he can finalise his deal with Congress. He believes he will win again in Khairatabad if he resigns and faces a by-election. This shows the confidence he shows in his voter base.

Meanwhile, Danam wants a guarantee from the Congress High Command. He went to Delhi last Thursday to meet senior leaders. He seeks a Rajya Sabha seat that will fall vacant or wants to be nominated as an MLC after resigning, and then wants a ministerial berth in the Telangana Cabinet.

Danam had a strong track record during his earlier Congress phase. One has to wait and see if the party accepts his demands or sets limits. His next step depends on how these talks end.

As for Kadiyam Srihari, the Congress High Command will wait until the Speaker takes a final decision. Kadiyam already campaigned for his daughter, who contested the Lok Sabha polls on a Congress ticket, after his alleged defection from BRS. Kadiyam has been put on hold for now.
