The headlines for the past six months have been dominated by the news that Ongole MP, Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, will leave the YSRCP. Magunta has been a key figure behind various changes in Prakasam district and a few segments in Nellore district by YS Jagan. The Magunta family has numerous relations in these two districts.
Despite facing many insults within the YSRCP, MP Magunta patiently stepped forward. Even when he resigned from the party on Wednesday, he mentioned that he was leaving without respect and would not compromise on his self-respect, without explicitly detailing the insults he had endured.
He is the sixth Parliament Member from YSRCP to resign, following five of his colleagues. After coming to power in the 2019 elections, Jagan seemingly disregarded Magunta’s input, causing several issues. Initially, restrictions were imposed on business transactions, leading to a halt in Magunta’s businesses in Andhra for four years.
Despite MP funds being allocated for development works, obstacles were created to impede their progress. Permissions were sought from Magunta Center for the construction of railway overbridges at Ongolu, Surardeddypalem, and Giddalur. However, minimal support, particularly in terms of land acquisition and other aspects from the state government, was not provided.
It was declared that if Magunta attempted to establish a medical college, it would be an honor for the state government. Despite facing potential issues with Delhi’s affairs regarding business, Jagan’s plan seemed to involve denying the Ongole MP seat to Magunta. Notably, when Magunta resigned from YSRCP on Wednesday, he refrained from criticizing the CM or the party explicitly. However, his statement about leaving the YSRCP for self-respect clarified his stance.
It is known that the TDP has offered an opportunity for Magunta’s family to contest in two seats. The party suggested that Srinivasula Reddy contest as an MP again, while Raghavar Reddy should be fielded in the next election. Srinivasula Reddy stated that it was his family’s decision to field Raghava Reddy, indicating that the TDP has recommended he contest from an assembly seat.
