Drunk And Drive Checks Till Dec 31: Hyderabad

As Hyderabad prepares for the New Year, the city is already slipping into a holiday mood. Many tech companies are on reduced schedules due to offshore holiday calendars. With more free time in hand, citizens are stepping out to celebrate.

In response, Hyderabad Police have launched drunk and drive checks across the city. The operation began on Wednesday and will continue till December 31. Hyderabad Commissioner VC Sajjanar said checks are being conducted at 120 locations.

On the first day alone, 304 drunk and drive cases were recorded. All related vehicles were seized. Sajjanar stated that strict action will follow in every confirmed case, especially with New Year celebrations around the corner.

He announced clear penalties: those caught drunk and driving will have their vehicle seized, face a Rs 10000 fine, and may be sent to jail for six months. The Commissioner has urged citizens to follow the rules without exception.

For those planning to visit pubs, Sajjanar advised hiring a driver or booking a cab. He emphasised that celebrations must happen responsibly and without causing inconvenience to others. Violations will lead to firm action, he warned.
