In the Match 6 of the IPL 2024 showdown in Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, it was Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik who stole the show, leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru to victory over Punjab Kings.
Kohli’s impressive fifty+ and Karthik’s explosive hitting sealed the deal for RCB, who clinched the match with four wickets in hand and four balls to spare.
The chase of 177 runs was spearheaded by Kohli’s stellar knock of 77 runs off 49 deliveries, well supported by Karthik’s quickfire 28 off just 10 balls.
Earlier, Punjab Kings set a competitive target of 176/6, with skipper Shikhar Dhawan top-scoring with 45 runs. Despite contributions from several batsmen, Punjab couldn’t capitalize on their starts.
Bengaluru’s bowlers put up a commendable show, with Mohammed Siraj and Glenn Maxwell bagging two wickets each, while Yash Dayal and Alzarri Joseph claimed one apiece.
In the end, it was Kohli’s brilliance complemented by some fireworks from Karthik and Mahipal Lomror that secured Bengaluru’s first win of the season.
Kohli’s stellar performance earned him accolades as he swept the major awards of the evening, including the Fantasy Player, Most Sixes of The Match, and Player of The Match awards.
Reflecting on the match, Punjab captain Shikhar Dhawan acknowledged it as a good game but expressed regret over falling short by 15 runs. He emphasized the importance of capitalizing on the initial overs and highlighted a crucial dropped catch of Virat Kohli.
