Government employees and police personnel form a very important part of the election process. The Government employees are sent to the election duties in polling booths and the police take care of the security and prevent any electoral malpractices. There are instances where the employees and police change governments they do not like helping the other party on the voting day.
So keeping them happy is very important for the ruling party. In the 2019 elections, it is believed that employees have worked against Chandrababu Naidu because of the biometric attendance. But then, it is rumored that the ruling party now is losing their support.
The employees are feeling their pinch as their salaries are being delayed every month. Many are facing a lot of problems as they have EMIs to pay. They are unhappy that their salaries are the last priority for the government. The post-retirement benefits are taking ages to credit. So are the pensions of the retired.
Meanwhile, police are not even paid their TAs and Surrender Leaves. The lower cadre depends on these amounts to meet the house needs and educational fees of their children. There is a lot of dissent in the police due to the indefinite delays in these payments. If government employees and police are not happy, it can be trouble for the ruling party in the 2024 elections.
