It is confirmed that Sharmila will merge her YSRTP party into Congress. She is expected to announce in Delhi on January 4th and the same day, she will meet Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi.
There are rumors that Congress offered to send her to Rajya Sabha from Karnataka, an AICC Post, and make her the President of AP Congress Unit.
The expectation is that Sharmila will cut the votes of the Reddy Community, YS Admirers, Old-Congress voters who turned to YSRCP, and Christian votes from YSR Congress. Even if she manages to dent 1-2% votes from YSRCP, the election will be more or less over for Jagan.
Jagan tried his best to dissuade her from joining Congress but failed.
He is now planning to negate Sharmila using their mother Vijaya Lakshmi.
Jagan is planning to convince Vijaya Lakshmi and field her in the seat where Sharmila is going to contest.

She resigned as YSR Congress Honorary President saying that Sharmila needs her more.

Sharmila needs to show her mark in Andhra Pradesh after failing in Telangana. If not, she will be finished politically. We will have to see if Vijaya Lakshmi ignores her at such a crucial juncture.
