Kancha Gachibowli Lands: SC Raps Telangana Govt

The hearing on Hyderabad’s Kancha Gachibowli lands was held in the Supreme Court. The jury headed by CJI Justice BR Gavai heard the case.

BR Gavai asked the Telangana government if it had taken the required environment permissions before razing yhe lands. The Justice asked for clarification on the matter. Gavai also wanted to know why the Telangana government chose a long weekend to carry out the felling of trees on Kancha Gachibowli lands.

Gavai also asked the state government to specify the steps taken to make up for the damage caused. The counsel for Telangana government requested time to file a counter on the report by Kendra Sadhikara Sanstha.

The jury said that if steps to make up for the damage are not taken, CS and other secretaries will have to go to jail. Other lawyers raised the topic of whistle blowers and students arrested. They said they filed an application regarding the matter.

However, Justice Gavai made it clear that the issue cannot be taken up with lands petition. They can file a separate petition, the SC told.

Further hearing on Kancha Gachibowli lands will be held on July 23 by the Supreme Court.
