NT Rama Rao is known for his revolutionary 2 Rupees per Kg Rice scheme during his tenure. The legendary leader introduced it to reduce the hunger of the poor despite taking a heavy toll on treasury those days. The impact of the scheme is so big and it is implement even today in many states. Later on the scheme became One rupee a Kg and currently the government (in United State) gives 20kgs rice for a Below Poverty Line family at the cost of one rupee per kg.
And now Telangana Chief Minister K Chandra Sekhar Rao is planning to make changes in this scheme. The Chief Minister first thought of increasing the quota to 30Kgs per month but now is thinking on the lines of giving free rice of 20kgs to each BPL family. The government is of the opinion that this scheme will bring KCR popularity in poor on par with Late NT Rama Rao. Tamil Nadu government is the only government in the country implementing this free rice scheme for the last 5-6 years.
