Kodi Kathi Sreenu’s Hunger Strike in Prison?

Jagan-Kodi-Kathi-Judge

Kodi Kathi Srinivas, accused in the Kodi knife attack on Jagan, is set to go on a hunger strike from tomorrow in Visakha prison. Srinivas’s mother and brother plan to support the hunger strike in Vijayawada starting tomorrow in solidarity with Srinivas.

If this unfolds, it could have a significant political impact on AP politics. For the past five years, Janipalli Srinivas, also known as Kodikatti Sheenu, the accused in the Kodi knife attack case, has been languishing in jail. The plight of Srinivas, still held as a remand prisoner, is difficult to describe.

In connection with this case, Sheenu’s family has visited Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s residence multiple times, but with no tangible results. Despite being the victim in this case, CM Jagan’s response to granting a no-objection letter and removing obstacles to bail has been lacking.

As a result, Srinivas continues to remain in jail as a remand prisoner. In response to this, it appears that Srinu may announce a hunger strike in prison until he receives justice. Lawyer Salim and Sheenu’s family members are expected to hold a press conference today (Wednesday) at 12:30 pm at the Vijayawada Press Club to shed light on Sheenu’s plight in jail.

Kodi Kathi Srinivas played a role in YS Jagan’s victory in the 2019 General Elections. Many anticipated Srinivas’s release after Jagan assumed the role of Chief Minister. However, Srinivas’s family is disappointed with Jagan’s attitude after coming into power.

Even though the NIA completed its investigation and confirmed that there is no political conspiracy in the case, the YSRCP government has shown limited interest in releasing Srinivas. The hunger strike by Kodi Kathi in prison may take a political turn in AP politics.
