September 17th 1948 is the day Hyderabad is liberated from the rule of Nizams by the then Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel through military action. There were long standing demands to celebrate the liberation day officially by the state government. Even in the united state, KCR and TRS Party men demanded it but for some reason they are not doing it in their own government.

BJP today tried to hoist the National flag at Golconda Fort to celebrate the eve but Police arrested all of them citing no permission for the event. It is alleged that the CM strictly instructed the Police not to give permission for such celebrations in the city. BJP State President Kishan Reddy alleged that the state government is playing to the tunes of MIM party for muslim votes in the upcoming GHMC elections.
