Medicover Controversy: ₹9L Treatment for kidney stone?

Medicover Hospital Aishwarya death inquiry

Aishwarya’s death at Medicover Hospital has raised serious questions about patient safety and the hospital’s handling of her treatment.

Her family alleges that she underwent kidney stone surgery after paying around ₹9 lakh. They claim the doctors did not clearly explain the risks before the operation.

The family has also questioned the hospital’s explanation of the stone’s size. A doctor initially said it measured between 2 mm and 5 mm. When journalists questioned the hospital staff, they reportedly gave a different figure of 20 mm. The staff allegedly said they had not checked the reports.

These claims need a proper investigation. Medical records must establish the actual stone size, the need for surgery and the cause of Aishwarya’s death. The family has also alleged that several patients died at the hospital last month.

The bigger question is the government’s response. Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha must explain what steps are being taken to investigate the allegations and protect patients.

There is growing speculation that the hospital has links to a prominent political leader in Telangana, with some questioning whether these alleged connections are the reason for the delay in taking immediate action.
