
Kovelamudi Ravindra is the new Guntur mayor. Till Sunday, no one contested against him. However, on Monday morning, Achala Venkatareddy from YSRCP got into the fray. Finally, the alliance candidate Kovelamudi Ravindra won as Guntur mayor.
The post fell vacant due to the resignation of Kavati Manohar Naidu. The state election commission called for polls. The officials conducted the polls today and the alliance candidate won.

Till yesterday, it was thought that Kovelamudi Ravindra would win without opposition. But on Monday morning, YSRCP 30 division corporator Venkatareddy got into the contest. So both sides issued whips to their members.
But the alliance had majority and Ravindra won easily. Incidentally, YSRCP has 46 corporators in Guntur. TDP has 9 and Jana Sena has 2 corporators. Technically, YSRCP should have won the mayor post.

So here’s the twist. During the general elections in 2024, 19 corporators from YSRCP bid goodbye to the party and joined TDP and Jana Sena. Due to this, YSRCP’s strength reduced and the alliance gained numbers.
In this scenario, alliance candidate Kovelamudi Ravindra won the election as the mayor.
