In the political landscape of the Telugu states, Nandigama Suresh, a relatively unknown youth leader, emerged as an unexpected MP candidate in the 2019 elections. He received the Bapatla MP ticket from YS Jagan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Despite his lack of political experience, Suresh managed to secure a victory with a significant majority of 16,065 votes against his opponent from the TDP.
However, despite his victory, YS Jagan has stated that Suresh will not be given an MP ticket in the upcoming elections. Instead, the Chief Minister plans to replace him with former IAS officer Vijay Kumar, who has recently retired and expressed his interest in entering politics. Vijay Kumar, who held a key post in the government after his retirement, has become close to Jagan.
There have been accusations that Jagan often deviates from his stated positions and makes decisions according to his own preferences. This has led to speculations about the changes in candidacies for the upcoming elections.
One possibility being discussed is to move Nandigama Suresh from his current MP position to contest as an MLA from the Thadikonda constituency, replacing the current MLA Sridevi. In contrast to his victory in the Bapatla constituency, Suresh received only a few votes in Thadikonda during the previous elections.
However, it appears that Suresh is not pleased with this potential change, as he might be reluctant to move from his MP position to contest as an MLA. The situation is still evolving, and there might be further developments and discussions within the YSRCP regarding the candidate selection for the upcoming elections.
