The Polavaram Project that was neglected during the 5-year term of Jagan, is seeing good days again. The works are progressing at a fast pace.
During YS Jagan’s time, barely 3.84% works were completed. However, in the 12 months of alliance government, 5.93% works were completed. A new diaphragm wall is being constructed and is expected to be complete by December 2025.
It has to be recalled that the works which were around 72% complete by 2019 under the TDP rule, saw a progress of mere 3.4% between 2019 and 2024. Once the NDA government came to power, it took up the project on priority basis and completed 5.93% works in 12 months.
The speed was up by 81.70%. The land procurement for rehabilitation of those dislocated due to the project was 18.66% in 2019, only 3.89% was done during Jagan’s time. After Chandrababu came to power, 2.56% land acquisition and rehabilitation activities were taken up. 25.11% people got benefited in 12 months.
Overall, 56.57% progress happened under the alliance government in just one year.
During the floods that occured in 2020, the diaphragm wall got damaged. Had Jagan built an ECRF dam over the wall, there would have been damage control. However, due to Jagan’s negligence, a new diaphragm wall is being constructed again.
As mentioned earlier, the work on diaphragm wall will be completed by December 2025 and ECRF gap-1 works will be completed by March, 2026. Along with ECRF dam, gap-2 works will be completed by June, 2027.
With this, the Polavaram project will be complete say experts.
