The Election Commission has released the schedule for the by-election to the vacant Rajya Sabha seat. This seat fell vacant with the resignation of Vijayasai Reddy.

Nominations will be accepted till the 29th of this month. Scrutiny of nominations will be conducted on the 30th. A deadline for withdrawal has been given till May 2.
The election if necessary will be held on May 9. Counting of votes will be done from 5 pm on the same day.

The new MP will serve until June 2028.
Since the alliance will bag this seat, one of the three parties will bag it, and there is no chance of an election. So, the selected candidate will be elected unopposed.

So, we will get to know the candidate on the 29th or even earlier.
This candidate selection will have a bearing effect on the Andhra Pradesh Politics.
There is a strong buzz that the BJP may renominate Vijayasai Reddy to this seat by admitting him into the party.
If that happens and Chandrababu Naidu allows it, it will send a very wrong signal to the TDP cadres and voters.
It will also create a distrust in the allies that BJP is still maintaining good ties with the YSR Congress and Vijayasai Reddy will be brokering peace with the BJP regarding the cases and immunity from the Chandrababu Naidu Government.
That is also an indication that all the cases on Jagan Mohan Reddy including the CBI cases, ED Cases, and even the YS Vivekananda Reddy’s Murder case will not register any progress in the next four years as well.
TDP is the major partner in the alliance in the state and it has also got a big say in Delhi because the Narendra Modi Government is dependent on TDP’s numbers.
Even if the BJP is calling the shots, it will be a big blemish on the TDP.
Even if it is not Vijayasai Reddy, it is unfair to leave the seat to the BJP, given that Janasena has no representation in the Upper House yet, and the major partner is also not given a chance.
Either way, BJP getting this seat will give an impression that it is still dominating the alliance. In case, Vijayasai Reddy is fielded, the hell will break loose.
Vijayasai Reddy will be attending the SIT investigation on the Liquor Scam case on 18th of this month. He is likely to talk to the media on this issue after the questioning. We may get an idea that day.
