Cock fights are being held with great enthusiasm across Andhra Pradesh during Sankranti. Considered a traditional custom, large-scale cock fights are taking place in East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Anakapalli, Kakinada and nearby areas.
Marked arenas have been set up, drawing large crowds from Telugu states and other regions. Huge LED screens are installed for viewers. As seen every year, crores of rupees are being exchanged through betting.
Cock fights have already begun in Ambedkar Konaseema. Almost every village is hosting cock fights and gundata. Around 150 zones have reportedly been created, with a similar festive atmosphere visible in Gudivada.
In Gudivada Rural, Nandivada and Gudlavalleru, cock fights are being organised on a large scale. In Eluru district, the main activity is centred around Kaikaluru, where viewing screens have been arranged.
In the Kakinada region, cock fights are being held in Peddapuram and Jaggampeta. Overall, during the three days of Sankranti, high-stake betting continues in the name of entertainment.
