SC Appoints Hyderabad Doc In National Task Force

The RG Kar Rape and Murder case is currently the sensational case in the country. There are nation wide protests from the doctor community and other citizens, in general. Now, the Supreme Court of India appointed a prominent Gastroenterologist Dr. Nageshwar Reddy from the Telugu states to National Task Force.

In order to investigate the case, the Supereme Court of India constituted a National Task Force (NTF) to address critical issues concerning the safety and dignity of doctors and medical professionals, with a particular focus on gender-based violence and workplace well-being.

The bench comprising of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, alongside Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra passed this verdict, in a suo motu case initiated following the tragic rape and murder of a 31-year-old resident doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The special task force includes doctors from different specializations and when it comes to Dr. D Nageshwar Reddy, he is the founder of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology in Hyderabad.

The Padma Bhushan award winner is one among the nine members who will address the critical issues.
