Tata Power Nellore solar project

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Limited, will invest Rs 6675 crore in a major manufacturing project in Nellore. The project focuses on ingot and wafer production.

The facility will be set up in Potti Sreeramulu Nellore across 200 acres in IFCO SEZ. The project is expected to generate around 1000 direct jobs.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited is already a major player in renewable energy. The company currently operates 4721 MW of solar power, 1034 MW of wind energy, and 3000 MW of rooftop projects across 700 cities.

Power generated from the Nellore facility will be used for national consumption and exports. The company plans to complete construction of the unit by 2028.

The state government has proposed removing the allotted land from SEZ purview. This step is expected to facilitate smoother operations for the project.

A 200 MW solar power plant will be set up to supply electricity to the ingot and wafer unit. The required land for this plant will be provided by NEDCAP.

The project will require 12.6 million litres of water per day. Water will be supplied from the Kanigiri reservoir through a dedicated pipeline.

With this facility and other upcoming projects, the Sullurpeta-Naidupeta region is expected to emerge as a hub for solar panel manufacturing and allied components.

Wafers and ingots play a key role in producing solar cells and semiconductors. They are also used in phones, electronic components, and power generation equipment.

Ingots are used in manufacturing wires, machine parts, and sheets, while wafers are crucial for electronic microfabrication. Indigenous production of these components supports the Make In India initiative.
