The TDP-led alliance has finally begun addressing the growing concerns over seat-sharing and coordination ahead of Andhra Pradesh’s Local Body Elections. With tensions over seat allocation emerging as a challenge, leaders of the TDP, JanaSena and BJP are now sending a clear message: differences must not weaken the alliance at the grassroots.
BJP state president Madhav said the YSRCP was waiting to create differences within the alliance, but the three parties are moving forward through coordination. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan acknowledged that seat-sharing in local elections remains a challenge, given the TDP’s political experience, JanaSena’s strength and the BJP’s organisational network.
The statements indicate that the alliance leadership recognises the need to address local-level friction before it affects electoral prospects. While the three parties sharing power at the state level, local elections bring competing ambitions, overlapping support bases and pressure from individual aspirants. Managing these differences will be a crucial test of their unity.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has also highlighted the alliance’s record in implementing election promises and providing opportunities to educated candidates and youth. Pawan Kalyan, meanwhile, praised Naidu for prioritising cyclone preparedness over seat-sharing discussions, reinforcing the message that governance must come before political calculations.
The challenge now is to translate these public assurances into effective coordination at the constituency and ward levels. Alliance leaders can speak of unity, but its real strength will depend on how disappointed aspirants are managed and whether local workers campaign together.
The alliance has finally spoken up. The next test is to ensure that its unity at the top translates into strength on the ground before voters head to the polls.
