Mylavaram TDP MLA Vasanta Venkata Krishna Prasad made some interesting comments in the Assembly on Saturday. The House was debating about providing legal status to Amaravati as the permanent and only capital of Andhra Pradesh state.
His comments have raised eyebrows as Vasanta Krishna Prasad was previously in YSRCP in 2019 and served as the Mylavaram MLA between 2019 and 2024. After the TDP returned to power, he jumped back into TDP.
On Saturday, he was among those who spoke for the resolution. He said not all those in Lanka are rakshasas, referring to his time in YSRCP. He informed the House that many like him opposed Jagan’s idea of developing three capital cities.
Vasanta said that decentralization could be done by establishing industries in districts and rural pockets. He quoted examples of Chennai and Bengaluru that are growth engines of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka respectively.
The TDP is following the democratic norms by holding a discussion, though the resolution for Amaravati can be passed without one as the TDP enjoys absolute majority in the House.
The Chandrababu government wants to ensure that due procedure is followed so that there are no legal or constitutional issues later. Even at the Center, the NDA government can pass the Bill easily. But all protocols will be followed to make sure there are no hitches later.
Meanwhile, people of Andhra Pradesh are eagerly waiting for the Bill to be passed so that can reap the benefits of the sacrifices they made for the capital.
