The Telangana High Court heard a case on removing internet and cable wires from electric poles. The issue came to light after five people died in Ramanthapur due to contact with live electricity wires.
Police investigation revealed that the accident was linked to cable and internet wires hanging on the poles. Following this, the electricity department started removing such wires within GHMC limits. Airtel then filed a petition in the High Court.
Airtel’s lawyer argued that even cables with proper permissions were being removed. In response, the TGSPDL counsel demanded proof of permissions taken for the cables. After hearing both sides, the court ordered that only cables without permissions can be removed.
The final hearing has been postponed. With Ganesh Chaturthi approaching, there have been cases of electric shock while carrying idols. To prevent further accidents, the electricity department is running a special drive to cut unsafe wires.
