For everyone tracking the updates on Telangana’s local body elections, the ruling Congress party has taken its final stand. Panchayati Raj & Rural Development Minister Seetakka said the panchayat elections will be held using the old reservation cap without any change.
She announced that the local body election notification will be released before December 11. Seetakka made the statement while speaking to the media at Basvapur village in Bhikkanur mandal of Kamareddy district. The clarity put an end to ongoing speculation.
She said the panchayat elections will be conducted first, followed by the MPTC and ZPTC elections. According to Seetakka, the government took this decision because central funds for villages will lapse by March if elections are delayed further.
She added that the elections will follow the reservation pattern given earlier by ex BRS CM KCR. The government will offer 27% reservations, while the Congress party will allot 42% reservations. The announcement set the framework for the coming polls.
Party insiders say the state government postponed the elections earlier as it was unsure of the outcome. But after the Jubilee Hills by-election win, the cadre are charged up, and the ruling party now feels confident that the timing is right for the polls.
