Unique Gold Smuggling Attempt at Hyd Airport

Gold Smuggling HYD AirportThe Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials of the Customs Department scored a significant victory on Monday when they apprehended a passenger at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGI), Shamshabad, for attempting to smuggle gold.

The officials seized a total of 397 grams of the precious yellow metal valued at Rs. 20.59 lakh.

The passenger, arriving from Sharjah, had ingeniously concealed the gold in fake hair clips. However, utilizing their expertise in passenger profiling and efficient surveillance techniques, the Customs officers detected the suspicious traveler.

Despite the passenger’s efforts to conceal the illicit cargo, the officers swiftly apprehended the individual and conducted a thorough search, uncovering the hidden gold.

In response to this illicit act, a formal case has been registered. This incident serves as a testament to the vigilance and dedication of the AIU officials at RGI Airport in their relentless efforts to curb illegal smuggling activities and protect the nation’s economic interests.

Further investigations are underway to uncover potential connections to larger smuggling networks.
