VANPIC (Vodarevu and Nizampatnam Port and Industrial Corridor) failed to get relief in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court bench dismissed the petition by the VANPIC management seeking striking down of the case filed by CBI.

The VANPIC management asked why the CBI Special Court took into consideration the details provided by the Central Bureau of Investigation. They filed a petition in the Telangana High Court seeking the reason behind filing those details. As the High Court dismissed the petition, VANPIC approached the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court made it clear that it will not interfere with the decision of the High Court.

If one goes into details, in 2008, late YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s government announced the big project. The idea was to build two big ports and a huge industrial corridor as a part of the project in Prakasam and Guntur districts. The then government had a tie up with Ras Al Khaima. The CBI’s chargesheet focused on three important points. The main allegation was regarding 24,000 acres that were procured by giving low rates to the farmers against rules. Another allegation said that industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad had invested Rs 850 crore in YS Jagan’s Sakshi and Bharti Cements in lieu of favors.

Cases were also filed on ministers and IAS officials involved in the case. VANPIC‘s constant petitions in various courts have only been rejected. In between, 11,000 acres of land involved in the case have been taken over by the Enforcement Directorate. A case is on regarding this acquisition too.
