Tamil superstar Vijay has announced that his newly launched party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam will contest in the coming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. He has announced his plan to contest in the coming 2026 election in Tamil Nadu.
In this context, Tamil media has started to analyze which party will be the bigger loser in view of Vijay’s entry. Meaning, which party could lose its vote bank to Vijay’s party.
Reportedly, the opposition party of Tamil Nadu, AIADMK is struggling with multiple aspirants for party leadership. Ex-CM Palaniswamy is leading AIADMK but the likes of Panneerselvam and Sashikala are not too far from grasping the party leader post. This is causing unrest among the cadre and this uncertainty could mean that some of the party workers and a chunk of the voters could look at Vijay, it seems.
At the same time, small parties like Naam Tamilar Katchi, MDMK, PMK, and TMC could be affected by Vijay’s entry. The talk is that Vijay could be seen as the next big thing in Tamil Nadu politics and if that notion is carried into the public, then the vote banks of all the small parties could look at Vijay’s party as an able alternative for the two main parties, DMK and AIDMK.
However, Vijay is just a film star now and the impact of his transition to a politician in the next two years will decide if his party can actually have a say in Tamil Nadu politics.
