For the first time after announcing his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), actor Vijay issued a political statement. He criticised the central government for implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019.
In an official statement, Vijay said that it is not acceptable to implement the CAA in a country where all citizens live in social harmony. He additionally requested the government of Tamil Nadu not to implement this act in the state.
Not only Vijay but many other opposition parties have also opposed the implementation of the CAA, alleging that the BJP is trying to divide the people in the name of religion and is polarising the society ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
The Citizenship Amendment Act fast-tracks the citizenship process for non-Muslim immigrants who came to India from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan before 2014.
