Will Sharmila Capitalize On Jagan’s Arrest?

YS Sharmila

Speculations are on in Andhra Political Circles about a possible arrest of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the Liquor Scam.

The other day, Jagan also spoke about his ‘arrest’.

He said that nobody wishes to get arrested, but he will be ready if it comes.

Former CMO Secretary and retired IAS officer K. Dhanunjaya Reddy and OSD Krishnamohan Reddy, close associates of Jagan Mohan Reddy, were arrested in this case.

Dhanunjaya Reddy was the Number One in AP CMO between 2019 and 2024, while Krishnamohan Reddy is Number Two. They called the shots in the party and the Government in those five years.

If they were arrested, that means APCID reached the doorstep of the Tadepalli Palace. From here, it is only a matter of time before Jagan gets arrested in this case.

The political gain of TDP and YSR Congress in this issue will depend on the ‘Sympathy Angle’.

If the Government is able to build a strong case against Jagan, the ‘Sympathy’ is unlikely.

YSR Congress believes that arrests always help the Political Leaders.

Keeping YSR Congress and TDP aside, this is a big opportunity for YS Sharmila.

It is the Vote bank of Congress that is transferred to YSR Congress after YSR’s demise.

If Congress gets strengthened, it may get back a slice of that vote bank.

When Jagan was previously arrested, his mother, Vijaya Lakshmi, and Sister Sharmila filled the void. This time, he will be all alone. Moreover, YSR Congress is at a very vulnerable position, having lost the election by a humiliating margin.

But then, the Congress High Command is clueless about Andhra Pradesh, like how it is about the nation-level politics.

So it is up to Sharmila to work hard and fill the void that will be created after Jagan’s arrest.

Sharmila has become totally silent after the elections.

But this is her opportunity. If Congress crosses the 5% Vote Share mark in Andhra Pradesh, it is Game over for Jagan Mohan Reddy.

In the 2024 elections, Congress polled 1.72% Vote Share. In fact, it is up by 0.55% when compared to the 2019 election. So, a 5% Vote Share Target is a long way to go.

This is the moment for Sharmila’s revenge on her brother for his ‘use and throw’ policy.
