Education or Luxury? Rs 7.35 Lakh Fees for Grade 1

Bengaluru private school fees

Bengaluru’s private school fees have shocked many parents after a recent post revealed that Grade 1 costs as high as Rs 7.35 lakh per year. The parent shared that the fee is charged under the “Primary Years Programme” for Grades 1 to 5.

Parents are required to pay Rs 3,67,500 twice a year, in addition to a non-refundable admission fee of Rs 1 lakh and an application fee of Rs 1,000. These charges are pushing education costs to record levels in the city.

For higher classes, the costs rise further. Students in Grades 11 and 12 are reportedly paying up to Rs 11 lakh annually, making the school one of the most expensive in the country.

The figures have sparked debate. Some argue that the fees are justified by international curriculum, modern infrastructure, smaller class sizes, and diverse extracurricular activities. Others say these charges make schools status symbols rather than centres of learning.

Middle-income parents are the most concerned. They believe such fees deepen inequality by limiting access to quality education only to wealthy families. Many feel this issue is not just about affordability but about fairness and accessibility.

As private schools continue to increase their charges, the debate around whether education is a right or a privilege is expected to intensify. For now, the concern remains pressing for both parents and policymakers.
