According to the reports, five people had entered the store in the disguise of being customers, out of which 2 were armed and played a paramount role in the robbery by keeping the store’s staff at gunpoint. The miscreants later locked the employees in the pantry and tied their hands with plastic rope, allegedly looting diamonds and gold jewelry. The police said that the crime is most likely committed by an old gang.

Accepting the seriousness of the matter, Senior Superintendent Ajai Singh said that the robbers will be arrested soon and that they have formed a special team and instructed the concerned officers to probe the case. According to the police’s official statement four separate teams were formed under the leadership of jurisdictional level officers for surveillance, CCTV and information related to the incident and for questioning the witnesses.

The fact that the robbery took place while police security is water-tight in the city given the President of India’s visit to Uttarakhand has raised questions. President Draupadi Murmu was on a 3-day-visit to Uttarakhand and presided over the Uttarakhand State Foundation Day programme at Dehradun.
