Cannes is definitely the biggest platform for cinema from all across the world to get a global exposure. Indian actress Anasuya Sengupta has created history by becoming the first Indian to win the best actress award at Cannes.
Her victory is a big moment for artists from India who dream of getting global recognition. Anasuya won the best actress award at the Un Certain Regard segment of the festival. Anasuya got the award for her role in the movie Shameless which is directed by Bulgarian Filmmaker Constantin Bojanov.
Anasuya has worked as a production designer in Mumbai and lives in Goa. She got her recognition as the set designer for Netflix original Masaba Masaba. She moved to the arts and design section of films when finding acting jobs was difficult.
Anasuya has dedicated her award to the queer community and other marginalized communities across the world. This is the first time an Indian has won the best actress award at Cannes and her story gives motivation to all the young talents in the country.
