A disturbing case from Panipat, Haryana has left the public in shock. A woman named Poonam has been arrested for killing four children over the past two years, including her own three-year-old son and three girls from her extended family.
The latest incident took place during a wedding. A six-year-old girl went missing and was later found dead in a water tub inside a storeroom. CCTV footage captured Poonam taking the child inside, and she confessed to the murder during questioning.
Police say she also admitted to killing her sister-in-law’s nine-year-old daughter in 2023 because she believed the child was too beautiful. When her son witnessed the act, he too was killed. Another girl was murdered in August this year using the same method. All four children were drowned.
Poonam is now in police custody. Investigators are checking whether she had psychological issues or acted out of jealousy and anger. The case has raised serious concerns about child safety and the need for constant awareness inside families.
Many people believe that such repeated crimes demand far stricter punishment. They say justice should be faster and laws tougher when young children are targeted. The tragedy has left the state shaken and grieving.
