Paris Olympics: Outrage Over Alleged Blasphemy In Opening Ceremony

Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony

There is no doubt that the French love drama. The way things are unfolding, the Paris Olympics can easily be the most controversial Olympics in a long long time as the world is apparently not ready for it. The city of Paris hosted the opening ceremony for the 2024 Olympics and it is safe to say that a huge section of society didn’t like it.

The opening ceremony was the first to ever take place outside a stadium and although there were a lot of things worth complaining about including poor choreography and a lackluster show, it is in controversy for ‘blasphemy’.

The conservatives are accusing the Paris Olympics to have demeaned their God and religion by the portrayal of biblical and religious events not in consistency with their beliefs.

Many are angered by the open representation of homosexuality during the opening ceremony as well. People are forgetting that Paris is the city of love and the ceremony would be incomplete without love making it to the center stage.

The concerns of these people would have been valid if the games were being held in Texas or Alabama but we can’t forget that this Olympics is about France. It is not just your religion they are portraying but theirs as well and if they can’t decide how to represent their own religion then where’s the freedom of religion in practice?

This Olympics has brought to light how huge is the gap between conservatives and liberals. France is the country of art, culture and love. But apparently the world has regressed to the point that all this is unacceptable. If you’re not French and you hated the ceremony, there’s not much you could do about it. But getting offended by someone else’s culture seems quite narcissistic.
