A disturbing case of digital blackmail has emerged from Uttar Pradesh, raising serious concerns. After an engagement, a man allegedly violated the trust of his fiancée. He secretly recorded a private video during a video call without her knowledge or consent.
The accused later demanded one crore rupees from the girl’s family. He linked the demand directly to marriage and continued to pressure them repeatedly. The demand created tension and fear within the family.
When the family refused to pay such a large amount, the man allegedly threatened to leak the private video online. This caused severe mental distress to the girl and her family, who feared social shame and long term consequences.
Due to fear and concern for their daughter’s future, the family initially remained silent. The emotional pressure and worry about reputation delayed their decision to approach authorities.
After mustering courage, the girl’s father approached the police and filed a formal complaint. He detailed how the accused was allegedly using the private video to extort money.
Police registered a case under dowry harassment provisions and the Information Technology Act. The accused, along with his parents and sister, has been named, and digital devices are being examined as part of the investigation.
This case highlights the growing misuse of technology and underlines the importance of timely reporting in cases involving digital crimes and harassment.
