Son Fails Class 10, Parents Celebrate

In an unusual yet touching gesture, a family in Bagalkot, Karnataka, chose to celebrate their son’s failure in the Class 10 board exams with a cake and words of encouragement.

The Karnataka SSLC results were announced on May 2, 2025, and are available online through official portals. Seventeen-year-old Abhishek Cholachagudda, a student of Basaveshwar English Medium School, scored just 200 out of 625 in the Karnataka SSLC Examination 2025, failing all six subjects. Yet, instead of reacting with disappointment, his family decided to support him unconditionally.

Abhishek’s father, Yallappa Cholachagudda, a freelance photographer, organized a small party at home. The family cut a cake with Abhishek’s score written on it and offered him emotional strength rather than criticism. His mother, sister, and grandmother joined in, reminding him that failure in exams doesn’t define a person’s worth.

Yallappa shared that Abhishek had suffered serious burns as a child and experienced memory loss, which affected his academic performance. However, he praised his son’s courage to continue his education despite setbacks. “My son failed in exams but not in life,” he said.
