Viral Video: Woman Slapped for Exposing Cop

A female tourist from Delhi was slapped in public by a police officer in Nainital after she questioned why men were allowed to pass unchecked while she and her friend were stopped despite wearing helmets. The incident, recorded on video, has since gone viral and drawn criticism across social media.

The altercation occurred in the Ramgarh area, where the woman, riding a two-wheeler, was stopped at what many are calling a random and unnecessary checkpost.

Despite showing vehicle documents and complying with traffic safety norms, including both riders wearing helmets, she was harassed by the officer, identified as Gulab Singh Kamboj. When she questioned why two male bikers with similar helmets were not stopped, the cop snatched her phone and threw it before slapping her.

Instead of addressing the woman’s concerns, the officer escalated the situation with physical assault and sexist remarks. He was even heard saying, “Yaha aisi baat kar rahe ho, ghar mein karte honge apne,” implying moral judgment about the woman’s character based on her questions.

The Nainital Police responded by claiming the vehicle lacked a number plate and proper documentation, and that the pillion rider wasn’t wearing a helmet. However, the video contradicts these claims, showing both women with helmets and offering documents.

The officer’s reaction was not only excessive but deeply unprofessional. Slapping a citizen—especially a woman who was asking legitimate questions about equal treatment—is unacceptable in any democratic setup.

Even though an investigation has been promised, the public trust in local policing is once again under question. Incidents like this show why many tourists, particularly women, often feel unsafe in spaces meant to be welcoming.
