Chennai Super Kings are looking for a new head coach after Stephen Fleming left the role, but according to former India captain Kris Srikkanth, there is another question CSK need to answer first.
Srikkanth believes CSK already have a strong option within their setup in batting coach Michael Hussey and wants the franchise to consider him for the head coach position.
Srikkanth said CSK do not need to look outside when they already have Hussey in their setup.
The former Australia batter, known as Mr. Cricket, has been working with CSK as their batting coach. Srikkanth feels he could be the right person to take over from Fleming.
But for him, the bigger issue is Dhoni. Dhoni has not played for CSK since 2025 and did not feature in the IPL 2026 season.
With the franchise now searching for a new head coach, Srikkanth believes Dhoni’s position needs to be decided before CSK make other major calls.
He questioned what role the former India captain will have in the team’s future and said that arrangement needs to be fixed first.
Fleming had been CSK’s head coach since 2009 and guided the franchise to five IPL titles.
His departure has now opened one of the biggest coaching positions in the IPL. Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently suggested that Eoin Morgan could be in the running for the job.
Srikkanth, despite, does not agree with that option. He praised Morgan’s career as a player and England captain but said he would not pick him as CSK’s head coach.
For now, CSK have multiple questions to answer who replaces Fleming, who takes charge of the team, and most importantly, what happens to Dhoni?
