India’s 0-2 T20I series defeat against Ireland has triggered widespread reactions on social media. Adding to the criticism, Iceland Cricket once again took a sarcastic swipe at India head coach Gautam Gambhir after the series loss.
Soon after Ireland completed the clean sweep, Iceland Cricket’s official X account shared a post targeting Gambhir.
It read, “We can confirm that we don’t wish to add Gautam Gambhir to our coaching staff. He clearly has talent, though. To take those Indian players and deliver those results in Ireland takes truly remarkable gifts.”
This is not the first time Iceland Cricket has mocked Gambhir. After India’s 2-0 Test series defeat to South Africa last year, the board had posted that it would not appoint Gambhir because its current coach had guided the team to a 75 percent win rate in 2025.
The latest post quickly went viral on social media. Many fans reacted to India’s disappointing performances under Gambhir’s leadership.
Since taking over as India’s head coach in July 2024, the team has faced several difficult results. These include a 0-3 home Test series defeat against New Zealand, an ODI series loss to New Zealand in early 2026 and now a 0-2 T20I series defeat against Ireland.
Gambhir succeeded Rahul Dravid as India’s head coach in July 2024 on a three-year contract that runs until the 2027 ODI World Cup. Following another series defeat, pressure continues to mount on the former India opener.
