IND vs ENG: Who Is Responsible for IND T20 Downfall?

India T20 defeat against England in Bristol

India’s struggles in T20 cricket continued after another disappointing series defeat. England beat India by nine wickets in Bristol to seal the T20I series with one match still remaining.

India, once a dominant force in T20 cricket, are now suffering back-to-back series defeats. The latest result has once again raised questions about the team’s selection and overall approach.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, India managed only 158 runs. Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 80, but the rest of the batting line-up failed to provide meaningful support.

England chased the target with ease. Harry Brook and Phil Salt dominated the Indian bowling attack and completed the chase with more than six overs to spare.

The biggest concern remains team selection. India continue to back players who have not delivered consistently in T20Is. That strategy has come under increasing scrutiny after another poor series.

Washington Sundar is one such example. He has struggled for consistency in this format, yet he continues to receive opportunities. Many will question how long these experiments should continue.

The captain also faces tough questions. Shreyas Iyer has taken charge of the T20 side, but the desired results have not followed. A captain is ultimately judged by the team’s performances and victories, not only by individual batting contributions.

This defeat is about more than one disappointing match. India no longer look like the dominant T20 side they once were, and the gap between expectations and performances is becoming more visible.

The selectors need to reward consistent performers. The team management must make stronger selection decisions, and the captain has to lead the team to better results. Otherwise, India’s T20 struggles could continue in the coming months.
