Star Pacer Out: KKR Pace Attack in Trouble?

Akash Deep Ruled Out IPL 2026

Kolkata Knight Riders are facing fresh injury concerns ahead of IPL 2026. Fast bowler Akash Deep is currently recovering at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. His availability for the opening match remains uncertain as the team awaits medical updates.

His possible absence adds to KKR’s growing worries, especially with multiple issues in their pace attack. The management and medical staff are closely monitoring his recovery. A final call on his participation will be taken only after further assessment.

Akash Deep has struggled with fitness in recent years. Since making his debut in 2022, he has played only 14 matches across four seasons and picked up 10 wickets. Injuries have limited his opportunities with both India and IPL teams.

Last season, he represented Lucknow Super Giants but was released after one year. KKR later signed him again at a reduced price during the mini auction. The team had hoped he would strengthen their bowling unit this season.

KKR’s pace department has already taken several hits. Mustafizur Rahman is no longer part of the squad following a BCCI directive. Harshit Rana is also expected to miss the season due to a knee injury.

Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana has recovered from a calf injury. However, he may only join the squad by mid April. The team plans to assess his fitness before including him in the playing combination.

To manage the situation, KKR are considering backup options such as Simarjeet Singh, KM Asif, and Sandeep Warrier. These players could play a key role if injuries continue to affect the main squad.

After a disappointing campaign last season, KKR will aim for a strong start in IPL 2026. However, the current injury concerns in their pace attack may pose a serious challenge to their plans.
