Sharmila Slams TDP and YSRCP Over Violence During AP Municipal Elections

YS Sharmila on AP municipal poll violence

Political tensions are rising in Andhra Pradesh as clashes continue during the municipal election nomination process. APCC chief YS Sharmila has blamed both the ruling TDP and the opposition YSRCP for what she described as revenge-driven politics and questioned the failure to prevent attacks and alleged obstruction of nominations.

The second day of nominations witnessed fresh clashes in Kadapa district following incidents reported in Annamayya district on the first day. With the final day for filing nominations approaching, the violence has raised concerns about the conduct of the local body elections.

Sharmila Questions TDP and YSRCP

Reacting to the incidents, Sharmila accused both parties of encouraging a culture of political violence. She alleged that violence under the previous YSRCP government had now been replaced by even worse conditions under the TDP-led government.

Referring to the clashes reported in Rayachoti and Punganur, she described the incidents as deeply disturbing for Andhra Pradesh’s electoral process. She warned that political rivalry was turning Rayalaseema into a region marked by violence rather than development.

Sharmila also criticised the alliance government’s claims of providing clean governance. She questioned why attacks, alleged forced unanimous victories and attempts to prevent candidates from filing nominations were continuing if the government was committed to fair administration.

Questions Over Police and Election Commission

The Congress leader also questioned the security arrangements at nomination centres. She asked why alleged troublemakers were able to operate near these centres despite the security measures expected during elections.

She also sought accountability from the Election Commission and the police department. Sharmila alleged that the police were failing to act impartially and challenged the authorities to ensure that every candidate could file nominations without fear or interference.

Her remarks have drawn attention as political parties prepare for the final round of nominations. The immediate challenge for the authorities is to prevent further clashes and ensure that candidates can participate in the election process freely.
