Is Team India Ignoring Its Biggest Match Winner?

Kuldeep Yadav

India’s batting collapse in the second ODI against England has pushed the series into a decider at Lord’s. But even before the final match, one selection call continues to dominate the discussion.

If Kuldeep Yadav is one of India’s best wicket taking spinners, why is he yet to play a single game in the series?

The Indian team management opted for Washington Sundar and Axar Patel to strengthen the batting, leaving Kuldeep on the bench in the first two ODIs.

While the move gave India extra depth with the bat, it also sparked fresh debate over whether the team is overlooking a proven match winner with the ball.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned the decision, saying Kuldeep is often the first player to be dropped whenever India changes its combination.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra argued that the left arm wrist spinner has repeatedly missed out despite delivering consistent performances over the years.

Chopra also highlighted the importance of having a genuine wicket taking spinner in ODI cricket.

According to him, the middle overs are where games can change quickly, and Kuldeep has the ability to break crucial partnerships instead of simply containing runs.

The discussion has gained even more attention after Washington Sundar was ruled out of the series deciding third ODI due to a hamstring injury. His absence has opened the door for a change in India’s playing XI.

With the series level at 1-1, all eyes will now be on India’s team selection at Lord’s. Will the team management finally back Kuldeep Yadav, or will another combination keep him waiting? The answer could reveal a lot about India’s plans going forward.
