Rahul Dravid has asked the Indian team management to be patient with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi before thinking about his entry into Test cricket.
Vaibhav is only 15 but has already made a big name in white ball cricket. He became the youngest Indian to play a T20I and also had a strong IPL season.
But can he make the jump to Test cricket so quickly? Dravid believes the Bihar youngster needs more time in domestic red ball cricket before getting a chance at the highest level.
He’s only 15 years old given the opportunity to practice and play domestic cricket and a couple of seasons of red ball cricket, he will be able to hold his own in the Test match team, Rahul Dravid said.
Vaibhav has already scored 776 runs in 16 IPL matches this season at a strike rate of 237.30. He also scored 175 in the Under 19 World Cup final against England.
Despite his first class numbers tell a different story. Before the ongoing Duleep Trophy game, he had played eight first class matches and averaged 17.25.
Rahul Dravid also feels getting regular red ball cricket could be difficult because Vaibhav is likely to become a regular part of India’s white ball plans.
Rahul Dravid also pointed out that breaking into the Test XI will not be easy with the current Indian batters performing well.
So, is Vaibhav ready for Test cricket now, or does Dravid have a point about giving him more time?
