The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) found itself at the centre of social media banter after reports linked former India head coach Ravi Shastri with England’s vacant Test coaching role.
Taking to X, Iceland Cricket said, From all reports, Ravi Shastri will be the new Test coach of England. The ECB are moving like a tracer bullet to appoint him.
The speculation comes after Brendon McCullum’s exit as England’s Test coach, leaving the ECB searching for a new face to lead the side.
While several names have been linked with the role, Shastri’s name has generated significant buzz because of his successful coaching stint with India.
Shastri coached India between 2017 and 2021, guiding the team to back to back Test series wins in Australia and helping establish them as one of the world’s strongest red ball sides.
Former England spinner Monty Panesar has also backed Shastri for the job, praising his experience and winning mentality.
So far, neither the ECB nor Shastri has confirmed any discussions. But until an official appointment is made, social media is likely to keep the rumours alive and Iceland Cricket has already delivered one of the funniest reactions.
