Arrogant, Spoiled Brat: Shastri’s Verdict on Kohli

Ravi Shastri speaks about Virat Kohli

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has shared his thoughts on one of the most discussed perceptions surrounding Virat Kohli. Speaking in a video posted on the One8 YouTube channel, Shastri explained that many of the labels attached to Kohli apply only when he is on the cricket field.

“Arrogant. Spoiled brat. Over the top. On edge. Everything true, but on the field. Totally the opposite off it,” Shastri said while talking about the former India captain. His remarks offered a different perspective on Kohli’s personality and the way he approaches the game.

Shastri explained that Kohli’s aggressive behaviour is driven by his competitive spirit during matches. According to him, the star batter knows exactly when to switch into game mode and leave that intensity behind once the contest is over.

The former India coach said he admires people who can make such a transition effortlessly. He added that Kohli is a very different person away from cricket and should not be judged solely on the emotions and reactions fans witness during matches.

Shastri and Kohli enjoyed one of the most successful captain and coach partnerships in Indian cricket. During their time together, India achieved several memorable victories and established itself as one of the strongest teams in world cricket.

Kohli’s passionate celebrations and aggressive on-field attitude have often divided opinion among fans and experts. However, Shastri believes these qualities are an essential part of the way Kohli competes and should not be mistaken for his personality outside the game.

With these comments, Shastri attempted to separate Kohli’s on-field character from his real-life persona. He said the image many people have of the batting star is shaped largely by what happens during a match rather than who he is away from cricket.
