Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could soon receive his first call up to the Indian team. The 15 year old is being considered for the T20I tour of Ireland in June, raising hopes of a record breaking debut.
According to reports, selectors have shortlisted Sooryavanshi along with a few other young players. The aim is to test fresh talent ahead of the important tour of England.
Sooryavanshi has been in excellent form this IPL season. He impressed with a 78 off 26 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, a 52 off 17 against Chennai Super Kings, and a 39 off 14 against Mumbai Indians.
He has shown confidence against top bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Josh Hazlewood. This fearless approach is one of the key reasons selectors are closely tracking him.
The plan is to introduce him in a shorter series where the pressure is lower. He is also likely to be considered for the Zimbabwe tour later this year.
Support for his selection is growing within the cricket community. Arun Dhumal has praised his performances, while Irfan Pathan has backed an early debut.
Currently, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record as India’s youngest male debutant at 16. Shafali Verma is the youngest overall at 15. Sooryavanshi could challenge these records if selected.
The Ireland series is scheduled for June 26 and 28. A young Indian squad is expected, with senior players likely to return for the England tour in July.
Speaking about his approach, Sooryavanshi said he focuses on the ball rather than the bowler. He aims to keep his game simple and effective.
