Paid premieres for Tamil films have been rare, especially after the Tamil Nadu government restricted early morning shows. The first major film to follow this strategy was Suriya’s 7aum Arivu.

Tamil audiences have often expressed disappointment over their favorite films being watched and reviewed by other state audiences before they get to experience them.
