Rajinikanth’s much-awaited pan-Indian film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and featuring stars like Nagarjuna, Upendra Rao, and Soubin Shahir, is all set for a grand worldwide theatrical release on August 14. As the release date nears, the film’s team is actively promoting it through nationwide interviews and events.
At a recent Telugu-language promotional event, Nagarjuna made headlines when he shared his excitement about the script. He revealed that upon hearing the story, his immediate question to director Lokesh Kanagaraj was whether Rajinikanth had already accepted the role—because Nagarjuna’s character is equally powerful in the film. This statement quickly went viral on social media platforms.
However, Nagarjuna’s enthusiastic remarks have drawn criticism from certain netizens, who accuse him of overstating his importance in multi-starrer films. They recalled similar claims he made during promotions of Kuberaa, where he worked alongside Dhanush, saying that he always positions himself as the lead.
Some online users have advised Nagarjuna to tone down his remarks during future events, warning that such declarations may lead to more trolling and unnecessary negativity around the film’s promotions.
Despite the trolling, Nagarjuna’s participation is generating additional buzz for Coolie. With the film’s release around the corner, many are curious to see whether his performance will earn him a significant fan base in Tamil Nadu and silence the critics. The box office will soon reveal whether Coolie lives up to the massive expectations surrounding it.
