After the massive success of Karuppu, Suriya is preparing for the release of his next film Vishwanath and Sons, directed by Venky Atluri. The film completed shooting before Karuppu hit theatres. It is now scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14.
At the same time, Suriya is working on a cop drama tentatively titled Suriya 47, directed by Jithu Madhavan. Reports suggest that nearly 70 per cent of the shoot has been completed. The makers are aiming for a theatrical release later this year.
Since both projects were finalised before Karuppu, fans have been eagerly waiting for updates on Suriya’s next venture. The wait has now ended with an official announcement about his 48th film.
Suriya will collaborate with pan-Indian production house Hombale Films for his 48th film. The production house officially confirmed the project by sharing a note with fans across social media.
While the announcement did not reveal the complete cast and crew, it offered important hints. TJ Gnanavel, Sai Abhyankkar and Kayadu Lohar were tagged in the post, indicating their involvement in the project.
According to reports, TJ Gnanavel will direct the film, which is said to be based on the 5 rupees doctor. Sai Abhyankkar is expected to compose the music, while Kayadu Lohar is reportedly set to play the female lead.
The announcement has received mixed reactions from the Kollywood audience. Many believe the successful Jai Bhim combination of Suriya and TJ Gnanavel could deliver another powerful and memorable film.
Others feel Suriya should have chosen another commercial entertainer after the success of Karuppu. They believe continuing with mass-oriented films would have helped him maintain the strong momentum he has gained.
Some fans also point out that content-driven films carry greater box office uncertainty. Even when they receive positive reviews, they do not always attract large theatrical audiences. They see this project as a bold but risky decision at this stage of Suriya’s career.
Meanwhile, several industry trackers remain optimistic because the film is backed by Hombale Films. They believe a powerful film on the scale of Jai Bhim could reach audiences across India and further strengthen Suriya’s market.
For now, there is no clarity on how the project will shape up. It remains to be seen whether the film meets audience expectations and emerges as a major blockbuster after its release.
