SpiceJet Horror: Overcharged, Delayed, Poor Service

SpiceJet passenger frustrated after baggage dispute

A traveller has shared a frustrating experience on SpiceJet flight SG199 from Bagdogra to Delhi on September 26. Despite staying within the combined baggage limit, they were charged extra and faced rude treatment from the airline staff.

Extra Charges Despite Valid Allowance

The passenger’s ticket included 15 kilograms for checked baggage and 10 kilograms for hand baggage. They carried only a 14-kilogram suitcase and a laptop bag. Even though the total weight was within limits, SpiceJet demanded ₹3,000 for “extra” baggage.

Poor Handling of Cabin Bag

Staff allegedly claimed the cabin bag exceeded the 10-kilogram allowance and refused to place it in the overhead bin. Instead, the passenger was forced to keep the bag on their lap for the two-hour flight, creating an uncomfortable and unsafe journey.

Delays Add to Passenger Frustration

The situation worsened as the flight was delayed during both boarding and departure. The passenger compared this treatment with IndiGo, which often accommodates minor baggage discrepancies by shifting excess into checked luggage.

Questions Over Service Standards

This incident raises wider concerns about inconsistent airline policies and poor customer service. Passengers expect fair handling and professionalism, but such experiences leave them questioning the reliability of budget carriers like SpiceJet.
